Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but in my 18 years of travelling to Florida the only ‘cheap deals’ you will find have a catch to them. Either a time share day out or a bundle package which will include tickets to smaller theme parks that you would probably not want to visit or have the time to.

My simple advice is based on the fact that Disney, and other major theme parks, don’t need to discount as they are, when all said and done, the biggest attraction in the world. Some ‘packages you buy will offer a ‘buy back’ policy for tickets not used, but this is at a highly reduced rate.

So my best advice is to go direct to the theme park web sites and book your tickets to suit your trip. The theme parks to offer tickets at reduced rates for 2,3,4 and more days passes and family deals too. “We are definitely going to open on time. We’ve got some landscaping to finish up, we’ve got some interior design to finish up and then some cleaning, so yes, we are going to open on time,” said Kim Iseman, Legoland’s director of sales and marketing.   On Tuesday, members of the media were given a two hour tour of the park as work continues toward an October 15 opening.

The 150-acre park will feature 50 different rides, shows and attractions with the target audience being kids aged 2 to 12.   “Their eyes are going to get big. I think they are going to go absolutely bonkers in here when they see it, I think,” said Construction Supervisor Craig Reibel of the reaction he expects from kids after they enter Legoland for the first time.   Among the main attractions will be four roller coasters and Island in the Sky, which will take guests up 150 feet for a 360-degree view of the park.

As part of the transformation from Cypress Gardens to Legoland, Reibel says they have moved 700 different plants and trees.  He says that’s been no small task for a park originally designed around Mother Nature.   “Some of the trees that we moved were a hundred years old and weighed about 75 tons. It cost pretty close to $12,000 (each) to relocate them.”

The transformation to Legoland has also meant replacing most of the park’s old electrical, sewer and lines.   Once the park opens, general admission tickets will be $75 each for adults and $65 for kids aged 3-to-12. However, a $10 discount is being offered for all tickets purchased before the park opens in October.   Parking at Legoland will be $12.

The “coldest theme park attraction in the world” and “the largest expansion in its resort history” is under construction at SeaWorld Orlando. But you don’t have to wait until 2013 to experience a new world. SeaWorld announced Tuesday that it’s opening two other attractions by next year.

One of those is TurtleTrek. It features a 3D/360-degree
dome SeaWorld claims is the first at any theme park in the world. Designers have married a state-of-the-art animated film and powerful projection system with a fully domed theatre. Guests are promised a seamless, 3D virtual environment all around them, even over their heads.

TurtleTrek showcases the vulnerable sea turtle and asks everyday heroes around the globe to help make a difference in saving animals in the wild. Also opening next year is Freshwater Oasis, which is going up on top of Discovery Cove’s old saltwater reef. Like TurtleTrek, it’s considered a remodeled attraction.

“You’re swimming up and the marmosets are going to be on the tree limbs, like, basically right in front of you,” said Julie Scardina, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Animal Ambassador.

It will also feature face-to-face encounters with Asian otters. The Freshwater Oasis is considered the ‘rainforest’ element and will be mostly shallow, so it’s a good area for kids.
Creative Director Brian Morrow says if you’re not “wading through trails flooded with water through a tropical jungle and finding animals,” go ahead and “chillax” in this themed section. He encourages you to grab a cold one and plop down on the brightly colored Adirondack chairs that are built into the area.
